Film and Drama require the highest of production values, and besides a creative vision understandably at the top of that list, the real practical art ultimately involves an ability to deliver to the tightest deadline on demand, whilst remaining cool-headed and flexible should a shooting schedule change.
Working to a script, a period in time or a specific backdrop where a storyline is set entails a vast amount of research and development upfront before truly imagining a world that a narrative demands.
From organising explosions, car chases, stunts or SFX effects to designing brand idents, bespoke furniture, light fittings or inventing specific prop makes, these plus many other visual elements are initiated, originated, and then supervised by the Art Dept. Other than production, it is also a team that must consider both cast and crew members, solving any problems of concern and facilitating an environment for all to comfortably work within, whether studio based or on location.
These early experiences garnered a catalogue of valuable knowledge whilst working alongside several very established production designers. Their encouragement and personal endorsement propelled me forward to evolve as an individual creative force and reach HOD status in my own right now on both Feature Films and HETV Dramas.
